I agree with you. This story really upsets me. It's the ultimate cover-up driven by power and ego.
Paterno isn't the only guilty one, but he did have almost absolute power over Penn State football which leads me to believe that what happened after the grad student came to him happened due to his actions... or inaction.
Casting Paterno as just one rung on the ladder is not realistic.
