It has become almost fashionable to claim that the Fed is not doing nearly enough to revive the economy. This conclusion follows from the same logic that the "stimulus was too small" meme employs: Has the economy recovered? No? Then policymakers have not done nearly enough.

Or how about this little revelation (admittedly no picture) from the Obama administration that it has now asserted the power to have a secret government panel, not authorized by any law, nor subject to any oversight, declare that specific American citizens can be assassinated/executed without any due process.  And before my friends on the right start yapping about "being at war," it is not possible to be "at war" with Al Qaeda in a legal sense because you can only declare war on a national entity, not a sub-national group.  Want to change that, fine.  But until then, don't ever visit me with any crap about how you're will to shred this part of the US Constitution for "national security" but insist that the other parts be upheld for your particular little self-interest.

There is no public record of the operations or decisions of the panel, which is a subset of the White House's National Security Council, several current and former officials said. Neither is there any law establishing its existence or setting out the rules by which it is supposed to operate.

The Constitution may not be a "suicide pact" but it is not an "ala carte buffet," either.
